The steps I took to calm a red face

I have quite reactive skin so I’ve always been conscious of a red face. But I also had a new skin mission: I was trying to up the ante when it came to even tone and a brighter complexion. So I increased the amount of acid-based products I was using and started having more facials and laser treatments. While I achieved smoother, brighter skin, the red face I thought was a thing of the past reared its ugly head. I also recently had an adverse reaction to a face mask, so I had to become a whole lot fussier with what I put on my face. But it’s kinda hard when it’s your job to try lots of different skin care products.

So to help calibrate my red face I looked for what calms my skin. I started using the Dermalogica Ultracalming range.
After cleansing morning and night, I’ve been spritzing my face with the Dermalogica UltraCalming Mist. It has a cooling affect, which made it also feel quite calming on my skin. But it also set it up for optimum hydration levels for the day. On days when my red face was quite bad, I applied a few drops of the Dermalogica UltraCalming Barrier Defense Booster directly to the red areas: my cheeks, nose and chin. I also massaged my entire face with a pea-sized amount of Dermalogica UltraCalming Calm Water Gel. The gel is cooling on the skin, too, so it gives quite a bit of relief.
Since I’ve dealt with the red skin causes, I’ve noticed that my skin’s not breaking out into red, hot patches as much. It still gets red, I’m a skin type 1, so I always will, but I’m much happier with the state of my skin.
How do you deal with red skin? Have you used any of these Dermalogica products?

My mother finds zinc is helpful. She applies Invisible Zinc Tinted Sunscreen, even at night! She says it helps.

I definitely cannot afford dermalogica products, but I do appreciate the idea of these products - calming skincare is so lovely especially when it has lavender in it!

I'll have to look into these products for the gym, I always get so red - even just the thought of working out! Dermalogica has always worked well for my sensitive skin.

I haven't tried any Dermalogica products - I received a sample of the Daily Microfoliant that I've been meaning to use, however I've been using mainly Skinstitut products which are slightly more affordable. I haven't ruled them out completely though!

I haven't tried Dermalogica products for redness but changing the diet helped to tackle the redness for me.

I'm prone to redness & facial flushing (especially at this time of year), but I think mine comes down to heating + eating the wrong foods (for some reason commercially produced sweet potato chips have a coating on them that I react strongly to). I've also had a flushed face after exercise before. I think I've inherited my Mum's rosacea condition sadly. I haven't tried that Dermalogica spray, but I do love me a good facial mist.

Looks like good range. I only had red irritated face, still get it, when I get reaction to skincare or overdo something . Then I just back off and return to good gentle stuff

The calming mist looks really good, be wonderful when stuck inside with the heater/air-conditioning on, that is one of the things that makes my skin so sensitive

I've used the Dermalogica mist and it's a really nice product. I actually kept the spray bottle and fill it with water and it helps keep me cool in summer!

I don't have sensitive skin but I'm a fan of Dermalogica's Ultracalming cleanser. It's such a great cleanser to use in the morning and when my skin reacted to other products. I have a large 1 L bottle!

I'd like to try that myself Kristy. My cheeks are always red so I use a full coverage foundation. I thought I was stuck with it and didn't realise there were calming products on the market.

Facial mists are great. Dermalogica is a great brand for sensitive skin. Jurlique also has a Calendula Cream that is great for redness and sensitive skin.
