Luxurious beauty products: are they actually really affordable?

Hands up if you purchase a hit of caffeine from the local coffee shop before plonking your little toosh down on your desk chair each day? What about a cheeky weekly gossip mag? Do you pick one of those up at the train station and indulge in a wee bit of celebrity spotting on a regular basis? I do, and I don’t think twice about it, actually.
What about luxurious skin care? Is it something you buy? Or do you look at the price tag and think, “Oh, lord. I can’t afford that.” You’re not alone, beauties, but those price tags aren’t actually as scary as you think. Truly they’re not…
I’ve done a little bit of beauty maths, you see, and if you break down these so-called expensive products into their cost-per-use, the results aren’t that daunting. For example, La Prairie’s Advanced Marine Biology Revitalising Emulsion for eyes, face and neck – the new hydrating antioxidant whizz kid from its Advanced Marine Biology range – will set you back $180, but it last a whopping three months when used twice a day. And when you’re following the application instructions, it’s only costing you $2 a day. Yes, that’s less than that coffee you’ve already guzzled down, but this moisturising cream is actually going to leave you with glowing skin. Healthy skin. Smooth skin. It’s a solid skin investment, really.
Now, I know not everyone can afford high-end beauty products and other luxurious loot, but it’s actually interesting to sit back, punch some numbers and see how much you’re spending on what, and what’s going to give you long-term benefits. And after reading that La Prairie result, I’m thinking I’ve just found the perfect reason to give up coffee – and then pump the monetary benefits from doing so back into my skin…
Do you buy high-end skin care? If yes, do you think it’s a worthy investment? And if no, does breaking down the cost-per-use of an item bring things into perspective a little more?

I do get some of the higher end skincare, but it is hard like with ones like la prarie. Last range I can not even touch, it contains caviar! I look for cruelty free and enviromentaly friendlier ranges

I dont buy coffee ect, but i do think $2 a day that the splurge is worth it. I have spent quite alot of money now to get the better product. But in saying that the better quality product saves me money in the long run. In this case botox ;)

Love this product the eye serum OMG it is amazing. Opens the eyes and calms the skin eye area I use it morning and night and such a small amount is all you need. It is true when you work out the cost per day it is nothing - as they say work out how much coffee you buy each week per day/cake as well, you will be surprised that you can afford at least one product. When I worked out how much I was spending on coffee I stopped and invested in a top brand of coffee and I take it to work and make my own - still enjoying quality but getting a lot more for my dollar. Think about it girls. Treat yourself. Valentines Day is around the corner drop some hints for package specials, I bet David Jones will have some.

I have just started using La Prairie products - yes expensive but OMG worth every centl The David Jones assistant for La Prairie was very helpful once I told her what my skin loves and needs. It is good to know what your skin needs eg dry dehydrated or oily that way you are not been talked into purchasing something you are not sure you need.Just sheer indulgence. Rather than go to a beauty salon and pay for 45 minutes of bliss I invest that money into the product and do it at home. OK not the same as lying down and been pampered but the result is the same. I have also bought these products on line and it is a little less expensive that way as well. plus they deliver. I use the same company and dont have any problems it is 100% same product and packaging. If you cannot afford a couple of items at least buy a serum. Good luck

So true- I'm loving your perspective in this article! Our skin is the first thing we see when we look in the mirror and its the first thing people see when they greet us, surely it is worth investing in too. Cost per wear makes it seem so affordable!

i do purchase some high end skin care products, and i do see a difference with them, but some are seriously terrible and much worse than cheap drugstore products!

I like to use both high end & low end products, depends on what's on sale.

I think beauty products are predominantly priced according to who their target market is, not the quality of the ingredients inside or how long the products last.

I'm usually into moderately priced natural skin care products as I find they do the trick and are affordable. However, you do make a very good point there Cherie. A lot of better quality products have more highly concentrated ingredients and therefore you use less. It's something worth considering the next time I buy a product....

I do prefer using high-end skincare. Of course, if there were cheaper options, I'd jump on it, but to be honest, cosmeceutical brands don't do it for my skin. I have to use products that are scientifically formulated and tested and that work well beneath the skins surface. Ultraceuticals is my brand of choice and the results that I've gotten are fantastic. They are pricey products, but a little goes a long way and in the end, it's my skin that improving and my self-esteem, so you can't put a price on that.

I think the product that works for me, regardless of price, will be the product that I will purchase and repurchase. Having said that, it is mostly the higher end stuff that my skin likes...

This looks and sounds wonderfull and i know that we invest alot in our skin but if we bought everything that we get told is amazing i think if i saved the money on all the great products out there i would have enough money to buy a new car so i just cant afford to buy all that i want. And so i keep entering your comps in the hope that i could perhaps win something as great as this but for the last 2 years i havent won anything so i just have to keep trying i just dont know why i cant win or why i cant get to trial any skin products...espcially anything to do with anit-ageing products...Its like i am invisible :( sadly

There some high end products that deliver quality results that justify paying the price. I also think that some mid range products are just as good. If you can afford the initial outlay, the high end products usually last longer......so I think everyone should use something (regardless of the price) that they feel really good about using.

I occasionally buy high end products, but they don't always work better
