DIY tricks for feeding your skin from the outside

We love getting a little DIY-happy here at beautyheaven, so when it comes to creating skin care with food, we’re all for it.
There are plenty of foods that do an amazing job of nourishing your skin when you eat them, but you may be surprised at how these everyday foods can feed your skin from the outside too.
Better yet, you can save yourself some pretty pennies as well, so go on – treat your skin to these delicious eats!
Potatoes
Believe it or not, the humble potato boasts a high vitamin C content, making it a natural skin brightener. To create a fantastic face mask, rinse and peel one large potato, grate it finely, and then mash with a potato masher or a fork. Smooth the mixture over clean, dry skin, and sit with your head tilted back so it doesn’t slide off. After 30 minutes, rinse off the mask to reveal a smooth, bright and soothed complexion.
Tea bags
Keen to de-puff those tell-tale bags under your eyes? Brew and wring out two tea bags, then let them cool before popping them over your eyes for 15 to 20 minutes. The caffeine in tea helps to shrink the blood vessels underneath the skin and eliminate toxins and darkness under the eyes, leaving you with brighter, perkier peepers.
Avocado
If you’ve never treated your skin to a DIY avocado mask, put it at the top of your beauty to-do list, stat! Bursting with the goodness of antioxidants, monounsaturated fatty acids, and vitamins C and E, avocado firms, hydrates and softens the skin, protects it from environmental damage, and regenerates damaged cells. To whip up this multi-tasking mask, mash a ripe avocado, add a quarter of a cup of corn starch, and one tablespoon each of lemon juice and olive oil. Apply to your face, and leave for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing off with water.
Honey
With a ton of health benefits to its name, like reducing inflammation and improving immune function, it comes as no surprise that the sweet stuff does wonders for your skin too! A natural antibacterial and rich in antioxidants, honey is great for treating acne, slowing down the ageing process, and unclogging pores. Carefully smooth a thin layer on your skin and leave it for 30 minutes. When the time’s up, rinse off with warm water and watch your skin glow – and let the compliments roll in!
Coffee
After you brew your next pot of coffee, don’t throw away those delicious-smelling coffee grounds. Jump in the shower and treat your bod to a massage with the grounds to gently slough away dead skin cells. Not only is coffee a great exfoliator, it’s also rich in skin-loving vitamin E and antioxidants. The result? Super smooth, lush skin that smells as good as it feels.

The honey tip made me very interested. I know honey could help with burns. Years ago I had this cream from Nutrimetics and it was based on honey. It was an excellent cream and it claimed to help with burns. I believed in this claim

Brown sugar scrub is another great one! It melts in the shower so it doesnt clog the drains.
Caffine scrub is good for cellulite!

I'd love to try an avocado mask! I often also do a berry mask with a natural berry concentrated powder added to water and it leaves my skin glowing!

Love this article!
Another thing to use is turmeric powder as a face mask. It's used in south asian foods and also on the skin. I mix turmeric powder and yoghurt together to make a paste, put it on my face and it leave it for 15-20 mins twice a week.
PS: You can buy this at any Indian/Sri Lankan store. But make sure you ask for Kasturi Manjal as this won't stain your face!

I bought a jar of Manuka honey just to do masks with- it's great, a little messy, but at least it tastes nice too lol. My friend and I always send selfies to each other when we try our natural alternative masks and we always have bits falling off of our face:) we use a beauty tips app to find good natural skincare- it's fun experimenting, and much cheaper than the products you buy. So I love doing them, they're funny and effective:)))
