How to have a guilt-free beauty splurge

How good does a shopping spree feel?! There's nothing quite like treating yourself to new beauty products. It's all such fun and games, that is, until you check out the damage your splurge cost you. That's way less fun. But there is a sneaky trick that makes us feel less guilty: beauty brands that give back.

RELATED: Our biggest beauty sins, confessed!
How can you feel bad if your purchase has helped children? Or is a pioneer in ethical packaging? We reckon you can’t. So we’ve gathered up a bunch of beauty brands that are making the world a better place (and helping fuel our shopping addiction).
You're welcome, beauties...
MARY KAY
From May 1 to July 31, 2018, Mary Kay is running a Mascarathon where they're donating $1 from each sale of any Mary Kay mascara to Look Good Feel Better. If you haven’t heard of the program, it's a free national community service that fights cancer with confidence. The program teaches women who have cancer how to manage the appearance-related side-effects that are caused by chemotherapy and radiation so that they feel confident and empowered.
Need a new mascara? You might want to pick up the Mary Kay Lash Love™ Mascara, Mary Kay® Lash Intensity Mascara, Mary Kay® Lash Love Lengthening™ Mascara or Mary Kay ® Ultimate Mascara.

CLEAN PERFUME
CLEAN walks the walk when it comes to thinking clean and green. They are committed to erasing their footprint and everything from their perfume ingredients to their manufacturing facility is eco-conscious to reflect that commitment. The alcohol in their fragrances is corn-derived, non-toxic and in an aloe vera base to remain gentle on the skin. Their packaging is made from recycled materials and can be recycled or composted. Even the ink on their products is non-toxic and water-based. Plus, their manufacturing facility uses solar power. So if you're after a guilt-free fragrance, try CLEAN.

THE BODY SHOP
Want a full-body beauty splurge sans guilt? The Body Shop has you covered. The brand has committed to enriching not exploiting the world and part of this commitment involves their Forever Against Animal Testing Campaign. The Body Shop is collecting eight million petition signatures to end animal testing in cosmetics. Across the globe, they’ve reached over six million signatures and are aiming to present a convention to the UN for a global ban. You can sign the petition online or in-store. The Body Shop also celebrated 30 years of their Community Trade Programme (which supports marginalised communities around the world) last year. They have pledged to double the size of their program by 2020 which should help 40,000 economically vulnerable people access work.

KIEHL’S
Kiehl’s has a philanthropic initiative called Kiehl's Gives that supports the brand's three pillars; children, environment and AIDS research. The brand also works with TerraCycle to help build things like children’s playgrounds out of their recycled bottles. So if you buy enough, you can return your empty bottles to a Kiehl’s store and you’ll score some complimentary goodies. Seems like a good enough incentive for us!
beautyheaven loves the Kiehl’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash and Kiehl's Acai Serum.

LUSH
Lush sells solid and naked products like the Lush Jumping Juniper Solid Shampoo Bar and the Lush Fresh Farmacy Cleansing Bar to cut back on unnecessary packaging. They also use 100% recycled and reusable paper bags, reusable plastic pots and bottles that you can recycle at home or take back to your local shop for a free Fresh Face Mask. They also use plastic-free glitter!

Yes I've just had a bit of a beauty shopping spree! Today I'm richer with Kerastase Gold Elixer Ultime (X2) (the best stuff for my hair!), Aspect Purastat5 Cleanser, some Aspect serum, Kerastase Ultime shampoo and conditioner (to match the Elixer of course!; ) and an Aesop & Antipodes sample too.

I love The Body Shop, and their stance on animal testing. I also love Lush’s dedication towards reducing unnecessary packaging. More brands should follow in the footsteps of these guys.

I like that companies are doing more then just making money for their own coffers. There are many other brands that are always giving....Dove is one.
