    Nappy rash causes and cures

    No mum likes it when their baby’s little bottom is red and inflamed. Not only does it make bathtime and change time uncomfortable for baby and difficult for mum, it affects baby’s mood, making them irritable and not their happy self.

    The best way to avoid nappy rash is to understand what causes it. Here are a few common nappy rash causes and cures:

    Prolonged periods of moisture
    Bub’s nappy should be changed regularly to avoid long periods where the baby is wearing a wet nappy.  A barrier cream can be applied to help avoid constant moisture against the skin. Try Lucas’ Papaw Ointment or a nappy rash cream. You only need to apply a thin layer and rather than apply at every nappy change you can just apply at night.

    Detergents
    You may find that some washing detergents won’t agree with baby’s delicate skin. Try not to chop and change your washing detergent or use a mild brand.

    Diarrhoea
    Loose faeces, which can be caused by teething or stomach upsets can cause nappy rash due to the increased moisture in the nappy and can also exacerbate existing nappy rash.  In the case of diarrhoea, be sure to change the nappy regularly. If the diarrhoea persists consult your doctor. And don’t forget to keep check on your baby’s fluid intake. Diarrhoea can cause dehydration.

    I also think sudocrem is fantastic. Plain old cornflour is also said to be good.

    Nappy rash can also be caused by baby wipes which can contain ingredients that your baby's delicate skin react to such as fragrance and alcohol. There are wipes that contain only natural ingredients.

    I agree with suziejane,sudo cream is the best i have used better than anything on the market. I've seen some bad rashes and this by far has been fast acting my son wants the cream on after nappy changes to also helps prevent nappy rash I found

    I agree with Suziejane, we tried a few nappy rash creams and sudo cream worked best for us. Once my daughter was diagnosed with labial adhesion we were told to put it on her at every change.
