Beauty trends that never go out of fashion
Fashion and beauty trends come and go. Think of how big colour blocking was not so long ago. Or how a deep side part was all the rage last year.
But if there’s anything we’ve learnt from all the Fashion Weeks that have passed, it’s that there are some beauty trends that actually never date – no matter the year, the season, or even the decade. And this was only reinforced by the reappearance of various runway looks at this year’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.
Here are just a few of our favourite ‘timelessly-on-trend’ beauty looks from the most recent runways…
BEAUTY TREND #1: SLEEK AND SMOOTH HAIR
It’s not often you see frizzy flyaways on the catwalk, and this year’s hair looks were no different. Whether the models were wearing their hair loose, in a plait, a ponytail, a bun, or were rocking a funky slicked-back ‘do, one long-standing trend was consistent: a smooth finish. We particularly love this trend because it always adds extra shine and makes hair look more stylish and better groomed.
BEAUTY TREND #2: GLOWING, RADIANT SKIN
Some designers had their models sporting bright, vibrant lips this year; some opted for simple and subtle make-up. But one thing that never changes is the beautifully radiant skin of each and every model, year after year. Whether dewy foundations, brightening illuminators, or light-reflecting primers have enhanced their complexions, each face always looks more flawless than the next and the glowing finish really works wonders to complement the remainder of any make-up look.
BEAUTY TREND #3: DEFINED EYES
Defined eyes never seem to go out of fashion – and this year the runways showed us various ways of doing it. First, there were the well-groomed brows, which helped to bring definition to the models’ faces while enhancing their eyes. Then, we saw some classic winged liner (also big at the Virgin Australia Fashion Festival thanks to L’Oreal Paris Make-Up Director Elsa Morgan) which – whether a simple flick or a cat-eye – added sultriness to any look. And lastly, lashings of mascara, which helped enhance lashes and really opened up the models’ eyes.
BEAUTY TREND #4: A BRIGHT, WHITE SMILE
While models aren’t always encouraged to smile on the catwalk, backstage and post-show they’re constantly flashing their pearly whites – which only proves that a bright, beautiful smile is the one thing that can never go out of fashion. In fact, team it with any make-up or fashion style and your look will be instantly complete!
And luckily for us, this is probably the easiest (and most-affordable) ‘timeless trend’ to recreate – especially when you’ve got the right tools. Colgate® Optic White™ Toothpaste features the whitening ingredient that dentists use*, and can whiten your teeth by up to three shades in just four weeks**. How easy is that? All you have to do is brush your teeth morning and night (which you do anyway), flash a gorgeous smile and this no-fail beauty trend will have been achieved!
BEAUTY TREND #5: MANICURED NAILS
Nails may not be front-and-centre on the Fashion Week catwalks, but that doesn’t mean they’re neglected either. Perfectly filed, shaped and polished nails work to bring together each model’s look and help them look the picture of well-groomed perfection. Keep yours consistently looked after and all you’ll have to do is choose the perfect shade to stay on top of the trends.
