We reveal the downside to Sephora's best selling beauty products

Sephora has revealed its bestselling selling beauty buys, but Australian consumers might be left feeling a little disappointed, with only one on the list available at Australia’s flagship store (for now, anyway).
RELATED: Best budget mascaras
RELATED: 10 great primers under $25
Spilling the stats to celeb stylist Rachel Zoe’s The Zoe Report, the global beauty retailer revealed the five most popular products across its 300+ American outlets:
#1: Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette
#2: Tria laser hair remover
#3: Anastasia Beverly Hills contour kit ($66.00 AUD, in store at Sephora Sydney)
#4: Urban Decay Naked 2 palette ($78.00 AUD, mecca.com.au)
#5: Urban Decay Naked 3 palette ($78.00 AUD, mecca.com.au)
Sadly, the only product that’s actually available at Australia’s Sydney store is the sleek Anastasia Beverly Hills contour kit, which comes in at number three.
Plus, beauty fanatics will probably already realise that the two Urban Decay palettes coming in at numbers four and five are available for purchase elsewhere – at Mecca Maxima since late March.
As for the the top-selling Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette, SMH recently contacted Sephora Sydney to enquire about its whereabouts in the Australian market, and the retailer says it expects to have it in stock this month. Needless to say we’ll be keeping an eye out.
On another note, it’s interesting to see that, overall, the bestsellers seem to indicate a trend towards a more understated and naturally defined beauty look, with neutral-toned palettes and contouring kits dominating the list.
I suspect contouring queen Kim Kardashian may have something to do with it...
While Sephora works on getting those missing products in store, you’ll also be excited to hear that Sephora’s set to roll out about 20 new stores in Australia (starting with two flagship stores in Sydney and two in Melbourne).
Unfortunately, the retailer hasn’t given any further details as to where the stores will be or when we can expect them to open, but rest assured, as soon as we know about it, you will too!
In the meantime, Sydney beauties (and their mums) will want to get down to Sephora this Thursday 7th May for The Mother of All Beauty Nights event.
Held in-store between 5:00pm and 9:00pm, the highly anticipated affair includes free makeovers, facials, hair styling, mini manicures, unique beauty offers, competitions and more to celebrate Mother’s Day.
Sound like something you and your mum could handle? Thought so! For more information, visit the event website.
Have you used any of Sephora’s bestsellers? What’s your number one beauty product?

Always have loved Sephora! Absolutely obsessed with the Naked palettes. I know they get a bit of flack but I really do love 1, 2 and 3.
Naked palette 1 has very soft matte neutrals the shade virgin is great for under eyebrow highlight and great inner corner highlight as well. Half baked is a beautiful soft light gold shimmer that really brightens up an eye look - smokey golden eye look also goes well with the smog, naked and dark horse shades in this palette. These are all very pigmented and if you used an eyeshadow base it really does last. The three darkest colours in this palette dark horse, hustle and creep all are great for different smokey eye looks. There are both cool and warm tones in this palette to again create diverse looks.
Naked palette 2 is potentially my least favourite out of the three, but still has my favourite gold colour half baked as well as a gorgeous purple shade busted that makes for a flattering eye look for people with blue eyes such as myself. The shade busted goes well with hustle from Naked palette 1 as well. This palette has some more cool tones then the last palette and has a much darker shade blackout which is again amazing for smokey eyes or even as a liner if you wet a thin brush and dip into this shade you can make a very gorgeous eye liner and even a smoked out liner. The shade bootycall is similar to the virgin shade but more matte and is also great as a highlight under your eyebrows.
Naked 3 is potentially my favourite because I love pinks and subtle pinks as well as rose gold. This is the perfect girls night out palette with a girly pink flair and only warm colours. The shade strange is a perfect base colour to start an eye look especially a warm eye look. Very flattering to all eye colours. There is such a range from light to dark pink and brown colours in this palette.

I am a huge fan of Sephora. I like their own home brand, the blush was very good quality and reasonably priced. I have tried their home brand hand cream which was also very good moisturizing and had a lovely scent and fun packaging. I have been on a mini spree at sephora lately. I actually learnt about Sephora many many years ago when it wasn't even in Australia yet and I often dream of going to new York to see the sights but one of my stops between sight seeing would be a a shopping trip at sephora since i am a makeup addict and i visit a makeup store in any town and country I visit but then I found out they were coming to Australia i was so excited.now i can get all them brands i like from USA and i like their home brand products too.

Like many others have commented here, Sephora Australia has been quite a disappointment for me. I've bought a few things from the online store during the big sales, and I quite like some of the Sephora branded makeup products but not enough to motivate me to shop with them more regularly. I don't have a Sephora store in my city.
Their range of Tarte products is limited enough (no Shape Tape, really??) that I just buy directly from the Tarte website instead. I just wish I could do the same for IT Cosmetics.

I would love to get my hands on any Urban Decay palettes. They all look so amazing. I have to admit that most of my browsing and Wish Lists have been with Mecca not Sephora.

I bought the gold colored handled sephora brush set on line. Cost me like 48 American dollars but it gave no instruction as to which brush was for blending foundation, eyeshadow etc it would have been a help. I would love to use them do will try by trial & error & see what works.

I was expecting to spend heaps of money with Sephora when they opened here, but I assumed that they would have an online store. I hope that Sephora management reconsiders and allows us to buy their products online.

Sephora is too overpriced here, I was only excited because of the affordability of it overseas!

I wish that Sephora would open an online store. I never go to Sydney - I live 6 hours away. It's really annoying. They could be making so much money if they were online.

I have to agree that I love neutral pallets (only bringing out dark metallic for evening times). I would happily get my hands on any of these eyeshadows however I particularly like Urban Decay :D

I've heard so many crappy things about Sephora that I'm not even interested in them coming to Brisbane anymore. Got mecca and I'm happy with them.
