Did you know David Jones has over 100 beauty services?

Nailing a tricky make-up look, finding your signature scent or even just sorting out your everyday skin care routine can be quite a confusing and difficult thing to do on your own. There are so many things to consider: application techniques, fragrance layering and ingredients to suit your skin type. But it’s nothing that can’t be overcome with the help of a professional and there are actually a whole range of them at the ready, waiting to teach and guide you through the big world of beauty. And the best part? It’s probably where you already do some of your beauty browsing – David Jones.
You may be surprised to know the cosmetics department offers over 100 services, ranging from microdermabrasion to make-up lessons and even a sensory journey to find your perfect scent – right there in the store.
bh’s Astrid and Sam recently went to experience two of the services on offer…
Sam – Laura Mercier’s Signature Flawless Face
“Doesn’t every girl want their make-up done for them in the morning? For Laura Mercier’s Signature Flawless Face, I was able to rock up without a stitch of make-up on and leave as a more beautiful version of myself just 45 minutes later. The service started with my skin being soothed and prepped, followed by a thorough foundation matching with the new Candleglow Foundation (it literally melted into my skin – they matched it THAT well). It was clear from the get-go that the beauty advisors taking me through the service knew exactly what they were doing. They were citing shade names without even looking and made me feel like I was in very safe hands. I was sceptical about having my make-up done in a department store, but the way the counter is laid out and the expertise of the artists put all my fears to rest. Once my base was perfected, my eyes were defined with Laura Mercier’s signature ‘tightlining’ technique and my features were enhanced with a little contour, blush and highlighter. At the end I still looked like me – but better. It’s definitely a great make-up service for those who need a beautiful day look, whether you’re heading to lunch with the girls or a daytime date.”
Astrid – Ultraceuticals Hydra-Brasion
“As part of my booking I had a consultation with an Ultraceuticals skin technician to determine my skin concerns and choose the right treatment for me. After expressing my concerns about pigmentation and dullness, I received the Hydra-Brasion treatment, which incorporates microdermabrasion and UltraSonophoresis. This was my first microdermabrasion treatment, so I didn’t know what to expect and I was relieved to find theirs was held in a private room behind the counter and the specialist had a background in beauty therapy. The treatment removes dead skin cells and increases cellular turnover to improve the overall look, feel, texture and tone of skin through the power of UltraSonophoresis (infusion) technology. UltraSonophoresis uses low frequency ultrasound to increase the penetration of ingredients by up to 1000 times more than a typical application method. It’s not the most comfortable experience – there’s a very high-pitched sound, which when placed close to your ear isn’t exactly pleasant, and the UltraSonophoresis tool heats up as it’s applied to your face, but at the end of each “phase” (there’s four) a soothing treatment is applied. By the end of the treatment my skin was supple and plump, smooth to the touch and absolutely GLOWING. The entire process took about an hour and I was able to leave straight afterwards and go about my day without any issues – it was the perfect pop-in skin treatment!“
These were just two of a long list of services you can get at David Jones, many of which are complementary or redeemable against product. So whether you’re after a make-up bag make-over, want to know what’s new in the world of beauty or need some help perfecting a skin care ritual, there are plenty of options to choose from.
For brides to be, we recommend heading to the Jo Malone counter to learn how to style your wedding with scents. Or if you’re looking for a fun activity for you and your girlfriends, a Bobbi Brown make-up party is the way to go.
And if you want to take advantage of any of the complementary services (who doesn’t want some free professional advice?), you can easily book online through the David Jones website. We particularly like going in for quick make-up touch-ups – it can be a real time saver when going from work to a party!
Have you ever had a beauty service at David Jones? If not, which of the above would you most like to try?

I have used the Laura Mercier candle glow foundation for the 2nd and 3rd time (well, since I have it already). It could be the lighting but I found that these 2 times I like it much more than my first use. It covers most of the marks that I would like to cover and I really like the glowy and dewy look. The only thing is that it shows up in flash photos a bit too shiny. Probably more suitable for occassions which wont be photographed.

Love the link with all the different services listed in one place - bookmarking that!
I'm tempeted to do some of these but worry about the 'hard sell' as DJs is quite expensive and I'd probably feel obliged to buy something on the spot so as not to appear rude! :D

I am too scared of the make up counter ladies at DJs! Also last time I shopped there, we got the rudest salesman. He told me and my hubby off for asking for a certain type of suit he needed for a wedding. The man said we would never find it anywhere, it is out of season and laughed at us and said 'good luck' in a condescending tone before walking away.

Many people find the sales assistants at DJs and Myer to be intimidating. But really; they're just people!

I find DJs over priced and many of the beauty workers a bit snooty at my local store. Especially the perfume counter which is a shame.

I only shop at David Jones when I'm on holidays and online scrambles on my computer so it's all too much trouble.

Oh these sound wonderful. Alas, the joys of living in a regional area - no department stores.

I've never been a big fan of David Jones... Their things are mostly very overpriced and I find the staff to be extremely serious...

... and rude. I have had always preferred DJ over Myer, but the customer service at DJ is really going downhill.

I was at Castle Towers David Jones yesterday, and there was a serious lack of staff there. It took for my toddler to start yelling, and my husband to let her run free before we got any sort of response (he thought that would annoy them enough). Prior to that we had been very 'well behaved'.
A sales lady came over to ask my husband if he needed help (toddler had decided to sit at a make up counter at that point - she's an early starter). He pointed to me and said "My wife has been looking for someone to help her, but we haven't managed to get a response yet, and it has been a good 20 minutes". I only needed one thing - a rather expensive but desperately needed face cream. It was like a ghost town.
Love the service I get at my local chemist much better.
