The best concealer for dry skin

Hiding dark circles with concealer after a late night is one thing, but when you combine that with skin that’s as dry as the Sahara desert – the result is a flaky, creasing mess. Dry skin can be a nightmare to work with when you’re applying makeup. Which is why you need to find the right formula to hydrate and smooth over dry patches, rather than accentuate them.

We spoke with jane iredale’s National Educator, Martine Stewart, to find out how to choose a concealer that still looks flawless when your skin is a dry, flaky mess.
How do you choose a concealer for dry skin?
The most important thing to remember is hydration, hydration, hydration. Martine recommends choosing creamy or liquid formulas as they’re more hydrating. “You don’t want a concealer that is dry in its consistency as this will only make the skin and any dry areas appear worse and more textured.”
What can picking the correct concealer for dry skin do for your makeup?
“Ultimately, it allows you to not only feel more confident in your skin but also help to create a more seamless and flawless complexion,” says Martine. Plus, it will help the rest of your makeup to last longer.
Which types of concealers are standouts for dry skin?
When it comes to choosing a formula, you want to look out for concealers with a creamy consistency as they tend to work better on dry skin. The next step is to choose the right ingredients. “Look for concealers that are filled with hydrating ingredients such as Moringa Seed Oil – which conditions, moisturisers and soothes the skin – and Algae Extract – which helps to prevent trans epidermal water loss,” recommends Martine.
What are your go-to concealers for dry skin?
-
jane iredale Enlighten Concealer – A creamy concealer that can give full coverage but can be easily sheered out as well. This concealer helps to cover very dark circles, hyperpigmentation and bruising.
-
jane iredale Circle\Delete Concealer – Also a creamy consistency that is easily worked into the skin for either a sheer or more fuller coverage finish. This particular concealer helps to cover and diminish the appearance of dark under-eye circles as well as soften the appearance of fine lines around the eyes.
“These concealers are a great option for any skin type but especially for dry skin because they will deliver added hydration as well as coverage.”
What other makeup products do you recommend for dry skin?
Martine suggests using a facial serum or oil, followed by a rich facial moisturiser, to help give the skin a plump, moisturised appearance. “Foundation wise I would recommend using a liquid foundation with a dewy finish, as this will give the illusion of more hydrated skin,” she says. And you can’t go past a hydration spray! “These can be used throughout the day to add a boost of hydration to your skin, keeping it looking plump and fresh.”

Concealer comes in handy at times when a blemish needs covering. There are some great concealers on the market nowadays.

I am using BareMinerals complete coverage serum concealer and it’s fantastic. It is described as being infused with an anti-ageing serum.

I have super dry undereyes and super oily rest of my face. Concealer makes my undereye area look old, wrinkly and crepey. Haven't found any yet that look good and stay put.

My skin is always drier under my eyes area so these sound good for me for that - I'm fully interested in the YSL one and the MCoBeauty one - I have found their recent products to be fantastic so I'd love to try that concealer.

Liquid concealer and I don't mix. I stick to powder concealer even on my dry undereye area as it looks less cakey throughout the day. I'd rather have light coverage than thick cakey undereyes.
