Ballerina beauty

I was never a ballerina. Even at a young age I didn’t have the grace or coordination to plié and pirouette, so instead, I had to sit on the sidelines and jealously watch my friends as they happily pranced in their perfectly pink tutus.
What I didn’t realise then was that you didn’t actually have to be a ballerina to look like one. No, I’m not talking about doing your day-to-day activities in a leotard and tutu, I’m talking about recreating the elegance of a ballerina in your hair and make-up looks. And with so much hype and excitement surrounding Natalie Portman’s new film, Black Swan, my trend predictor tells me that ‘ballerina beauty’ is going to be one hot trend!
An essential part of the look is, of course, the iconic ballerina bun. An easy up-‘do to achieve, all you need are some Lady Jayne Bobbi Pins – Contoured, and Wella Professionals High Hair Brilliant Affair to ensure your hair is slicked back and your frizzy bits are under control. A Scunci No-Slip Grip Black Hair Elastic will guarantee that bun stays in place too – whether or not you’re leaping across a stage.
As for your make-up, it’s all about a look that’s soft and light. Beautycycle™ Pressed Powder will leave your skin looking airbrush perfect and shine free, while a dabbing of Benefit Thrrrob to the apples of your cheeks will add the perfect pop of pink.
To ensure that this subtle look doesn’t see you fading away from the foreground, it’s important to accentuate your eyelashes. For fuller and longer lashes, apply Adorn Long and Lush Eyelash Primer before your mascara, or glue a few falsies to the outer corner of each eye – it’s guaranteed to leave you looking fit for centre stage!

In another life I am sure I was a ballerina I love everything about the ballet. Ballet is my favourite artform. Degas is my favourite artist he captured ballerinas so well.

i agree, you can definately tell a dancer when you see one! i do think though that the whole 'ballerina beauty' idea is more about non-dancers perseptions of a ballerina, rather than what ballerinas actually do. i am a full time dancer myself and when we are not performing in tutus and full clown-like stage makeup, we are lounging around (often stretching!) in baggy pants and tops with absolutely no makeup what so ever on.

Must be honest and say ballet is not a favourite of mine. Do not get me wrong, I think the ladies look elegant and I know a lot of hard work takes place. Everything from their make-up to dress is too clinical and fragile. SandraXxX

The movie looks ok. Iv heard mixed reviews so might wait for DVD. I love the ballerina look! I really regret not doing ballet when I was younger. They have such poise and are so flexy! I will def get my daughter to do it. So cute in their little tutus haha

It's such a great look when you want to feel polished and girly! Simple and elegant and no doubt about to become very popular due to this movie.... on the other hand, there will be the Burlesque look too LOL

You have to admire ballerinas, the dedication they go through is extreme to say the least. However if the look is going to be ballerina like I hope young girls in particular take this as just a make up look and not an all over body type. Not to many of us are built like dancers, and neither should we attain to be. As they say everything in moderation

I love the elegance of a ballerina look but I don't like it as a day to day look. Especially I think this look is great on skinny people but not on someone who's a bit more round, like me for example.. It's just not flattering. You have to have a nice bone structure and long neck and all that to really pull it off.. Would love to watch the movie!

Black Swan is a great psychological thriller - a clever mix of perfection and obsession. It's also visually stunning so check out the choreography, costumes and makeup. The film score is fantastic too.
I love the ballerina look - I've seen the Paris Opera Ballet and the dancers are so beautiful and graceful. I have a lot of respect for dancers for their commitment, endurance of pain and disciplined diets.
