I've done a search and couldn't find anything.
I'm after some recommendations for vitamin c serums on the market. What does everyone use and recommend. Just vitamin c serums... At this stage I'm just looking at alpha h and asap......
I recently had this one recommended to me online -
It's really cost effective, very high concentration and free shipping.
The same company also sell it on ebay -
Their product looks great! Thanks Steph, I've bookmarked it :)
Avon sell Clearly C which is a 10% vitamin C serum is currently on sale in their brochure for $17 usually $35 for 30ml. I have used it before it does work but I found it messy and came off on my pillowcase. I think I will give it another go. Use it at night.
I think that it is important to use vitamin C from a brand that uses a stable form of vitamin C. There are a few brands on TVSN that sell products with vitamin C in them. I think that Ciencia8 Vitamin8 is stabilised, but you'd need to check. Elizabeth Grant has several vitamin C products; Vitamin C Green Power C is meant to be good for pigmentation. TVSN has a natural skin care brand called Nourish. For this month, they have Nourish Argan Skin Rescue Salon Size Duo on sale. It contains ascorbyl palmitate which may/may not be what you're looking for.
I don't think that vitamin C is suitable for my skin. It is possible that I just haven't found the right form of vitamin C. I have used it in the form of a natural toner, a Mukti natural serum and La Mav Vit-C Advanced Nightly Repair Nectar, but it always dries my skin out. It's mainly noticeable when I apply certain types of liquid foundations that accentuate flaws. I see flakiness and a fine network of scaliness on my face. After I used the La Mav serum, it took me many months to get rid of the flaky areas.
Thank you for all your detailed responses/ help.
I'm sure I'll find something I like soon. That was helpful
Hi ray Jay, I won an obagi vitamin c serum from primped (i think) a little while ago but gave it to my mum as i was using a serum on my face already. She really likes it and even with me borrowing it every now and then the bottle has lasted many uses. I've noticed a difference in her skin and after using it myself i love how refreshed my skin looks and how well my foundation applies.
It absorbs instantly on my skin so there is no residue and i know it's getting deep into my skin.
Synergie is another great skincare brand i would recommend for serums, have not used their vitamin c but after having a peel i had a combination serum applied and have a vitamin b serum that is amazing.
Oh thanks been looking at obagi for a while. Just wish that vitamin c serums weren't all so expensive....
Rather than a serum you can get a Vitamin C Powder from Skinstitut and mix it in with your normal moisturiser!
any idea is the vitamin C powder, L-Absorbic Acid?
I get mine at the chemist for under $10 for 100+ grams and make my own Vitamin C. :D
Works good to brighten the skin.
Hi there....... Do u just mix the vitamin C powder with ur day & night moisturizer or do u have ur own combo of products & also have u noticed a difference in ur skin from using the vitamin C????? Very interested in this as I have been using a 'Medipeel' brand Vitamin C30 ....I have been using it every night before putting on my nigh moisturizer for about 2 or 3 months & I can't c Amy difference...it's suppose to be a ' potent RX grade anti-aging serum'.....I just feel like Ive gotten ripped off. L.
interesting, might try this. One less thing to worry about when its mixed.
I love The Body Shop Vitamin C range. I find the boost really good and it helps to brighten up the skin as well! There are some super expensive ones on the market that probably do a heaps better job, but the Body Shop range works for me!
Me too, I love the vitamin c serum like a primer under make up.
If you can get your hands on timeless vitamin c serum. I've been using it and its amazing.
It's also got vitamin e and ferulic acid
Welcome ReeseOz :)
The Vitamin C powder I use is the L-Absorbic Acid which is pretty acidic (pH 3-3.5 approximately, depending on your concentration). You do not want to mix it in your moisturiser. Chances are high that your moisturiser is a much higher pH (perhaps pH 5-7) and the Vitamin C will destabilise the ingredients in the moisturiser. Best to make a separate serum especially if you are not familar with the pH stability of each ingredient in what you are mixing it in.
Depending on the Vitamin C used. There are other kinds of vitamin C that are not so acidic but not as effective as L-Absorbic Acid. They are either water or oil soluble, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Ascorbyl,Methylsilanol Pectinate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate...
As to the effectiveness, to directly answer your question.
Yes i have seen a difference in the skin... it is brighter and lighter skintone. I use it on scars, especially new ones to prevent dark uneven skintone.
There is a BH article on different kind of Vitamins and what they do for you,
Ready made Vitamin C recommendations by bH here
I shared a recipe you can make your own Vitamin C serum for $2, it is on page 2:
The timeless serum has been amazing its brilliant.
Apparently its a dupe for skin celuticals.
I like that it gives c e and feluric in one dose.
It soaks in perfectly.
I also enjoyed using alpha h vitamin c but found in the end it was too rich for my skin- would vr great for mature dry skin-,,think its got too much hydrating ingredients for me.
Here's a good link post comparing timeless serum http://beautifulwithbrains.com/2014/10/31/dupes-skinceuticals-timeless-vitamin-ce-ferulic-acid-serum/
i seached saw that exact link after someone (maybe it was you in one of the comments section of BH article) recommended the timeless serum.
Where do you buy yours from?
I got it from amazon. I'll get the link and post it
thanks ray_jay! how much does it work out to be including amazon postage?
i am going to make my own as i have the skinceuticals recipe. :D just waiting to accumulate a few more things and buy the ingredients.
Would be good to buy one and compare with my home made formulae.
Skinceuticals is way too expensive!
Currently my simplified Vitamin C does amazing, comparing with my dermatologist private label Vitamin C (>$150+) which i just finished about a month ago. Fresh is really good. It's stable as i make enough only for 1 week and i store it in the fridge.
I'll do a test and compare all the vitamin C :D
So far i have also used Peter Roth Thomas Camu Camu Vitamin C sleeping mask (won't repurchase).
The newest one i made uses Vitamin C + Hyaluronic acid which is better than the previous recipe.
Vitamin C is a MUST in my routine.
I've also tried the peter Thomas Roth vitamin c camu and like you preciousa I won't repurchase. Won't repurchase Dr ole henkinsen vitamin c either. Used that last year.
I'm interested in two new products I've seen- anyone used/ opinions
1. Hyalimide vitamin c25%
2. Indeed vitamin c 22%
And a new range monodeema capsule... Hmmmm
ray_jay can i comment how sneaky it is of Peter Roth to tint the product orange?
companies do that to disguise their vitamin C going bad.
Unfortunately LAA is the numero ono when it comes to effectiveness but also the numero ono for 1st to go bad/oxidise. If it was to go bad, you are taking 100 step backwards and your skin will darken.
i included Peter Roth in a test here:
i think i will test all my vitamin C serums using the simple test detailed in the thread above. It's so easy, i challenge everyone to do it.
one of the reasons i have gone DIY.
Just found this on Catch Of The Day;
Their website has one bottle at $74.50, COTD has two for $24.98.
Effective Ingredients: Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B3, Amino Acid, Witch Hazel Extract, Licorice Extract, Glycerine, Allantoin
looks good, wished they said which variant of vitamin C they use.
2 new kids on the block, Hylamide C25 booster and Indeed Labs C 24 (22% vit C and 2% Hyaluronic)
I've been using Hylamide for a few months and I noticed an really weird tan on my already dark skin. I've stopped it for now. Apparently the dark tan with Vit C is an unusual but common experience for woc! Maybe that's what the fair skinned call the 'glow' hmmm
I'm yet to test out the new Indeed Labs C 24
Im stuck buying this product literally. I used it when my children were babies and now there a bit older and understand they no bath, cream, then bed. No cream = no bed for 3 very angry toddlers.
This moisturiser has a lovely smooth texture and glides onto my skin beautifully. I found it left my skin feeling soft and supple and it also wears well under makeup.
