The Ordinary. The brand we need to talk about!
The Ordinary. The brand we need to talk about!
Theres a new brand called the ordinary. By the same company -Abnormal beauty company. (hyaliminde )
So this range is super cheap - less that $12 for vitamin c, vitamin b and retinol serums. It looks amazing and will be coming to Australia next year.
The products like i said look brilliant and are soooo affordable. Check it out here.

Regular buyer for a long time.
Im stuck buying this product literally. I used it when my children were babies and now there a bit older and understand they no bath, cream, then bed. No cream = no bed for 3 very angry toddlers.
Smooth cream that doesn’t feel too heavy
This moisturiser has a lovely smooth texture and glides onto my skin beautifully. I found it left my skin feeling soft and supple and it also wears well under makeup.
Goodness in a Jar
After more than a week of using Pro X by Olay Anti Aging Wrinkle Smoothing Cream I can really say that the I ❤️ the product;

As I posted above, Priceline customer service team have said that they will stock Ordinary range by the end of May.
If wanting to check different Myer stores, just call them up. Just hope my local Priceline store stocks the range in future, I prefer shopping there (hello sales and no pushy retail people). They do not even have NYX (not that I need anything hahahha)
Yes Snailor, the Rundle Mall Myer has had The Ordinary for at least a month now. It's sort of near where they have the OPI nail polishes. They are just on a shelf - they don't have a standalone counter with a salesperson.
Thanks Chicklet! :)
Just got email from this site http://www.facialco.com.au/ for the code for 10% off everything OMG10 (till midnight 24th), and they stock The Ordinary. Not the whole range (18 products atm). Free shipping no minimal spending, so if you need to restock only one product, but do not want to waste money on postage, this looks legit
I never shopped on this site though so can not tell how good it is. It is in QLD, they have store there.
Ooh, very tempting! Thanks for sharing, Yohanna
I started using The Ordinary Retinol 1% and... nothing. The texture is so bland and on my skin it feels like a silicone primer. Can anyone else corroborate this? I haven't been using it for long but what sort of visible result am I supposed to be looking for with retinols in general?
I've never consciously used retinols before and as far as I aware, this should be the first retinol product I've ever used. If I have no seeming reaction, does this mean I've probably used products which contained retinols before and just didn't pay attention to the ingredients list properly?
Now can not say about the Ordinary one but I have same experience with Retinol 1%. I am using up now ASAP one VitA (Retinol 1%) and having no reactions on it as many experience (flaking etc). Actually no adverse reactions at all. And at the same time I am using AHAs daily (vitC 20%, glycolic...). Never before I used retinol, so I expected some crazy reaction, but nothing. I guess this is good for us?
With Retinol (vitA types in general) one can see results only after some lenghty time. Retinol some say at least 6 months or so of use. Tretinoin (prescription one, stronger stuff, since conversion is not needed apparently) somewhat less time. It is different with everyone
I had to stop because I'm starting to peel today so I guess it was a bit of delayed reaction. I feel like I have been sunburnt. It hurts to even apply moisturiser.
How do other people cope with the purging period? Any recommendations on what to apply moisturiser-wise? I'm wary my sunscreens also have alcohol content. I've also used snail mucin and even that stung (but not as much).
I bought the Niacinamide and Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate a few weeks ago from Adore beauty. I hadn't seen much of difference in my skin until I started getting breakouts. I'm not certain it was these products as it was Easter and could have been too much chocolate but I have given them a break for now until my skin calms down. I will retry them when my skin is good to see of they do work or were the cause of the breakouts.
If they work for you though they are great as they are so affordable and not gimmicky.
Stephanie Nicole did a video on this line and she goes into so much detail about the brand and reviews 22 products. She said they are able to sell these so cheap because they have simple packaging and don't splash out on advertising and endorsements so they can keep costs down. She does raise the point that these are mostly single (at most two) active ingredient products so can really only target one concern. Their more expensive line Hylamide has a mixture of ingredients and is better for treating multiple concerns. So depending on your concerns these might be for you.
I have been using Hylamide for (2-3?) months now and it's pretty good. Still not sure about the Vit C though. I want to try something else. SubQ serum and one for eyes is good. I really love the hyaluronic acid though - never skip this one in my routine but I alternate all the others with other serums.
The one I am most puzzled by is the Glow Booster. I guess I didn't understand its purpose when I originally purchased it but it's supposed to be a gradual tanner. I think there are definitely better products out there to get that glow rather than through this sort of gimmick.
Thank you for the updated on Hylamide Ethelinde! .... I have used HA serum booster for couple of months, only because I needed something to spread my ASAP vitC serum (I still am using up all that ASAP Platinum collection). This vitCserum is similar to what girls here describe of TOrdinary one, 23%, ASAP's one not gritty though, but suspended in silicone base and thick and balling up if used on its own straight onto face. So HA serum really works soooooooo well with it! ... If anyone there has Ordinary vitC 23% and struggles to use it, dilute it with some other serum (water based may even increase its potency so beware!). Since I have been using Hylamide HA with ASAP vitC, it is not irritating and spreads well.
Hylamide vitC i did open to decant into small airless pump 5mL for travel when I was away. Unsure about it, it is very liquidy, so pump bottle was inconvenient (leaking all over the bottle, I needed to pump straight onto my face).
HA one is going away so fast for me. Used only once per day and for 1.5 months and it is almost gone! I need the whole pipette even + for the face to help with my vitC serum. I dot vitC serum on cheeks, forehead, chin, then dot Hy-HA serum just next to those dots and then spread all over by mixing them.
SubQ yet to try. Need to get rid of ASAP first, then some other skincare that is about to expire sooner than subQ. Ah, skincare overload hahahah...I will never get to buy Ordinary line it seems. Still later on NIOD to go
Thanks for the tip with the VitC suspension - was thinking I could do that, just wasn't sure what to mix it with yet to keep it either the same or better - as long as it's not worse! :-P
I've also been looking at the Hylamide SubQ - my bank account said "let's go with The Ordinary first" ;-) haha
sunjeanie, since you haven't been using strong stuff before be careful with 23% vit C. Stuff is also AHA type of acid and some have even experienced a bit of irritation. Diluting it with some other serum is good idea, still patch test on one small area on your jaw line. ... Also use it at night. I use mine day time (since nightly I have to use up Retinol and other AHA serum)and I do not go on the direct sunlight at all and do not wear makeup . Over this form suspension vitC (mine 20% one is also suspension, but bit more complex that ordinary one) there is no way you can apply makeup properly. I use very hydrating cream over it too (mine has high amount of B3 but did not experience any redness as some do when using vitC and vitB3 at the same time). See how you go
Thank you for your concern Yohanna :-)
Yep, I'll be using the VitC suspension at night, takes a while to sink in, I believe?
I have also heard of the irritation reports occurring in other consumers for this product as well. I thought I'd either try use a very small amount or dilute it in a serum, but it definitely slipped my mind that I should be patch testing this one for sure.
Hopefully I'll be able to build up my tolerance quickly, my skin isn't too sensitive, but I'll wait a while after showering before using the VitC as that's when I'm most sensitive.
I'm only just starting to get into the deeper side of skincare, so I appreciate any tips you have :-)
I was out on the market for a new hair straightener, and really wanted to buy some products from The Ordinary - I'm such an impatient person though! Adore Beauty even has free shipping, so I could have bought them later, lol oh well. Got the Matrixyl 10% + HA and the Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2%.
Would have loved to try the 'Buffet', the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% and the Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% or the Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate Solution 10%, but these were all out of stock. I also have semi-sensitive skin, so I would have prefered to not buy such a potent form of Vitamin C to start off with, as I haven't used Vitamin C before. The oil version was in stock, but I don't really like oils. The suspension was cheap though.
The Argireline Solution 10% wasn't listed on Adore Beauty, so will have to find it elsewhere, was hoping to specifically rid some dynamic wrinkles from my forehead with it, but I'm hoping the the Matrixyl 10% + HA will give some results and won't be too oily for my liking.
P.S.
ry.com.au has just expanded their range on The Ordinary - they used to only have the primers, but they now have about 20 items. So not the full range, but I'll say this because they have free shipping until 4pm on Friday the 28th. :-)
That's really exciting! I really want to try their skincare.
I'm super impressed with the matrix 10%. I've just purchased my third bottle. I think this product really helps smooth my skin dramatically . I've been using this product for two months so far.
I won't repurchase the vitamin c 23%. I've just received the bha serum to try.
I'd be curious how you go with the BHA as I know you've used PC one in the past xx
Did you try also Buffet ray_jay? Some say if you like Matrix 10%, you will love Buffet even more, but now that you are loving this....me putting on wishlist. =D
I haven't tried buffet. I'd really like too. I'll order it on the next order when low but I'm about to blow the water and say.. I don't think I'll really repurchase much from this brand... Maybe I'm spoilt with products I've used but I think I like using one or two products that have added ingredients like antioxidants etc. Instead of one etc. For example my vitamin c serums usually have c, e feruilic etc in one product.
I won't repurchase the vitamin c as it burns and feels terrible. I won't use others as I only want pure c not others. Ie absorbic acid not map. That being said the map is great but I only want absorbic ATM.
The nincamide was good but left my skin red, and the Paula's choice comparrasion was so much better. Didn't irritate or burn skin.
The matrix I love and will. Good difference.
The oils are good value so yes to them. Plus they really last long very cheap.
The natural moisturising factor was good and felt hydrating but I didn't notice any long term effects and it says it has ceremides but looking at ingredients I can't see any in. So who knows?
The caffeine solution made my eyes crepy and dry.
I don't need azelaic acid or argeline ATM so won't try.
Still using the acids and will update on those later.
Anyways just my two cents and final opions on some of these. I think if I need budget yes but I do like other ingredients combined.
I've been using the Matrixyl 10% mixed with the Vit C suspension since I received them - I don't think I've seen any difference at all :-(
I'd been trying to fix the dynamic lines I have on my forehead, haven't seen a change. Should I be patient with this product, or not mix it with the Vit C? I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or if I should try something else.
Sunjeanie, for the first visible results to be noticed it takes at least 4-6 weeks time!
For example, with my pigmentation it took 2 years to see Drastic change! Just with skincare. Keep going. If your skin likes the product use it, if not, replace and use something else.
Dynamic forehead lines are not yet permanent, only if you still keep raising eyebrows unconsciously when you speak, frown...etc..in years to come they become static (stay on there, even when your facial muscles are relaxed). Skincare does not help there to eliminate "dynamic" lines, they disappear as soon as you relax muscles. Skincare can "only" soften the skin, add some helpful ingredients, speed shedding of dead cells, and protect it from env. damage letting it to repair properly. So prevention is the key with dynamic lines. Be conscious of tensed facial muscles. And eat heaps of fruit, veg and good fats only from whole nuts/seeds. And keep using good skincare that agrees with your skin.
I am full 40 this year and have no line in site (even finest one) on my forehead at all. There is natural thing with me not to ever frown or raise brows. Only facial muscles mostly engaged in conversation are smile ones, so I will get only and first those crows feet ones. Inevitable with age. Unless....botox LOL
And I have not been taking care of my skin until BH 2 years ago. Never even wore SPF or used serum of any kind, or eye cream. Just stop squishing your face , practice "resting bi#c# face" hahahhahahah ok, joking.
Thank you heaps ray_jay! Same, I prefer to use less steps and that products contain more actives in one formulation. Plus, it is literally impossible to apply even a plain BB cream over all those layers! Everything just balls up!
Will see if I will need Ordinary line products in the future when I get rid of all my stash (have soooo much still lined up from last year crazy sales. Did not even touch Dr. Dennis Gross, NIOD, SubQ Hylamide, another box of EA capsules, Peter Thomas Roth is all in the fridge atm...etc). If I am happy with the rest of Deciem range and need facial oils, acids for periodical peels, I will definitely turn to The Ordinary! Till then, I am doing frantic clean-out !
Personally I like the idea of single use type serums. The only problem with products that contain lots of ingredients/actives is that the potential for reaction is high (and impossible to track down the culprit). Like what happened with the Endota Spa reaction I had, I still have no idea which ingredient caused such a big reaction. At least with The Ordinary I can just target the key concern I have with one active ingredient. Also good for beginners as they aren't going to overdo it.
I have used their 10 minute peeling AHA/BHA several times and must admit it is really good. Looks a little alarming with a bright maroon face though (like beet juice) but good as you can see exactly where you placed it or areas that were missed. Will keep buying it. The Squalane oil is wonderful, will continue to buy as it is so light (like water) and really does hydrate well. The lactic acid 5% I love also but think I could step up to the 10%. The high spreadability primer I love and will buy again. The HA moisturising cream I found didn't do anything for hydration and moisture and didn't work so well with other layers.
I have avoided buying several of their big sellers like the niacinamide and arbutin because I have lots of those in the Korean regime I am using and those are both ingredients that you don't need a lot of to be effective. Still waiting on my darn foundation to arrive! Grrrr why is it so popular lol.
A quick note to sunjeanie dynamic lines won't be fixed by anything but botox, as you are continually using those muscles and keep pulling it back to place. A topical product can temporarily plump the area and make it look good but can't fix it. If I were you I would try silicone patches, stick them on your area of concern like forehead, under eyes, decolletage etc and you will see a massive difference. Combine that with the serum and it will dramatically change. I use the silicone patches on my decolletage before bed and occasionally use them under my eyes or forehead, particularly when stressed and frowning a lot!
