Is it time to step away from the beige?
As the saying goes, old habits die hard - and when we find a beauty product that we really love or a look that works, we stick with it and often find ourselves in a bit of a routine that can be hard to get out of.
The thought of trying something new can be a little scary - and while there’s nothing wrong with favouring a certain brand, and while you shouldn’t change something that works, it’s still great to experiment with new products and trends to find out what else could suit you.
Here are some of the most common beauty ruts - and some simple ways to get out of them.
The rut: natural nails.
The fix: while a pink polish looks feminine and pretty, it’s very predictable. If you find yourself used to wearing natural colours and find brighter hues a little overwhelming, why not modernise your manicure with some simple nail art? Try products such as Sally Hansen Salon Effects for fun prints and patterns or Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Colour for easier-than-ever nail art in an instant.
The rut: you play it safe with a brown, barely-there eyeshadowӬ.
The fix: opt for dark blue, green or plum shades if you want some full-on drama or play with girly pastels for a fresh, summertime look. Alternatively, try a deep blue eye pencil as a substitute for the basic brown or black that you’re used to – it’s just as subtle but the blue undertones will brighten the whites of your eyes, especially if you stick to a navy hue and smudge it into your lash line. Try: Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner in Navy.
The rut: you’ve had the same skin care routine for as long as you can remember”¨.
The fix: picking up the same cleanser and moisturiser can become second nature, and easily ingrained in your routine. However, over time your skin develops different needs, and the products that worked when you were battling breakouts may not be best suited for your skin now. Re-evaluate your skin and look for products that target your main concerns – or consider visiting a dermatologist to get their recommendations.
The rut: you choose clear over colourӬ.
The fix: we all have our go-to lip products, and while your clear lip balm is great for keeping your pout smooth and hydrated, it doesn’t mean you can’t show it off with a bit of colour. Emphasising a new feature is a great way to change up your look with very little effort. Try making the transition with a lip stain; they’re easy to apply and can make a world of difference. What’s more, you can build up the intensity with several coats or layer it with lipstick or Lipgloss. Try: Bloom Lip Stain.
