The best natural beauty supplements

Now that winter is well underway, you may be finding that your regular beauty and health routine just isn’t cutting it when it comes to your hair, skin, nails and general well-being.
But before you go running out to buy all new products, try thinking about small changes you can make to your current beauty routine to suit your seasonal needs.
One of my personal favourite ways to tailor my daily regime is to add supplements into my diet. I know supplements may sound scary for some, but rest assured that there are plenty of natural supplements available that may help boost your health both inside and out.
Here are 6 natural supplements you may want to try this winter!

Best natural supplements for your NAILS
When searching for a vitamin or supplement for stronger nails, biotin is the ingredient to look for on the label. This vitamin helps produce amino acids, which in turn create protein, and protein is essential for the growth of strong nails and will help reduce breakage and increase shine.
Try: Nature’s Way Beauty Collagen Shot and Pretty Pod Powder
Best natural supplements for your SKIN
Taking supplements for the skin can help to promote a clear and glowing complexion. Look for ingredients such as vitamin E, which helps to strengthen the capillary walls and promote healing and collagen to reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture and firmness.
Try: Swisse Ultiboost Radiant Skin
Best natural supplements for your HAIR
As well as biotin (which has similar strengthening effects on hair as well as the nails), other ingredients to keep in mind for stronger, longer, shinier hair are zinc, vitamin B-12 and iron. These ingredients help to strengthen the hair fibre and help repair damage from heat styling and colouring. Taking a supplement for your hair can make it grow faster and thicker, while reducing hair loss.
Try: Viviscal Maximum Hair Growth Supplements for Women
Best natural supplements for ALL THREE
If you need help in a little extra help in all three areas, there are supplements available that contain ingredients to target the hair, skin and nails all at once. Yep, you only need to take one tablet a day to enjoy the benefits of glowing skin, healthy hair and strong, shiny nails. An easy way to remember to take them is to keep them next to you toothbrush in the bathroom. That way you'll be reminded to take them straight after breakfast (they should always be consumed with or after food) and before you start your day.
Try: Blackmores Nails Hair and Skin and Swisse Ultiboost Hair Skin Nails+
Best natural beauty supplements for SLEEP
Many of us don't realise how much the weather and a change of season can impact our sleep. If you're struggling to sleep, try taking a natural sleep powder or supplement 1 hour before bed. Look for ingredients like melatonin, magnesium, lavender and valerian root when shopping for a natural sleep aid. And unlike medical or chemically-based sleeping aids, a natural one won't leave you feeling groggy the next morning.
Try: Henry Blooms Night Collagen and Abeeco Power Sleep Formula
Best natural supplements for your IMMUNE SYSTEM
If you're more susceptible to getting sick in winter (as most of us are!), then an immune boosting supplement might be what you need. Look for supplements that have vitamin B, zinc and vitamin C. But of course, taking these immune boosting supplements should be in combination with eating a healthy diet, regular exercise and quality sleep to ensure longevity with your health.

I think you have to be careful taking supplements, it is better to eat fresh food, especially fruit and veggies (preferabley raw) then take supplements that my clog up your liver.

As a professional practitioner in natural medicine (nutritional medicine - vitamins and minerals is actually not my primary modality), I just want to say that if you find you are buying a lot of retail brand supplements and not achieving what you hoped for, it's time to see someone who can help. On one hand, the labels on these products should indicate a "maintenance dose", not a therapeutic dose. If you are doubling (or tripling up etc) on certain vitamins or minerals, herbs etc, you CAN run into problems with overdosage. Selenium for example. Overdose can lead to loss of hair. All of it. Eyelashes, body hair etc. Look on the labels for the Australian government TGA "L" for listed medicines, for quality assurance and safety.

I dont take anything other then Kyolic garlic. Its supposed to be for cardiovascular support and claims to help with blood pressure but it did nothing for mine. I do however feel that it most likely helps with general immunity. I can thankfully say that I very rarely suffer with colds and havent had a flu in many years. So many I cant remember when,

After having a blood test I take two vitamin d and a caltrate per day. I have also add salt back into my diet.

Why did you add salt back, salt is actually not needed at all and is harmful to health along with sugar. I have also read that calcium tablets can be harmful in the long run. Have you had check ups to see if the supplements are working?

I've been wanting to try Viviscal and others for hair, but I think if your diet is good, they don't do much. I've been having bone broth, and increased my intake of meat, seafood and vegetables, so I'm doubtful. I had a full blood test done and my doctor said the results were all fine. A lot of vitamins aren't absorbed well by your body, so keep that in mind.

I have tried the Viviscal & it did absolutely nothing. Be interested to see if anyone has had any luck with other supplements to thicken hair?

I used to work in a shop in Europe that sold a very wide range of supplements and honestly, it may help avoid the consequences of serious deficiency - or it may help remedy actual health problems... but in all that time I never once saw someone come back and get more and say it was actually working for them in terms of beauty.
If you are deficient, supplementing is a good idea. If you live a taxing lifestyle (shift work, heavy physical work) it's a good failsafe to keep your health optimal... and yes health can help your beauty. But I have stopped believing in beauty supplements.

I take a few supplements, mainly vitamin D, C and magnesium. I'm not sold on beauty supplements but hey each to their own. I eat a whole foods diet as much as possible with loads of veggies, especially greens and fruits. I also consume herbs and spices on a daily basis in various forms as they are potent sources of nutrition with heaps of anti-oxidants. Good diet, sleep, stress management, sunscreen and love are all potent beauty tonics

I've taken many. The only ones I now take regularly are fish oil (I hate seafood so don't eat enough omega 3) and vitamin c. Other than that I try and just make a lot of green and fruit smoothies to get the vitamins I need

Totally agree that everything is affected by diet, restful sleep is essential and exercise always helps with well being.
I do take Vit D supplements as my count was so low and that affected my immune system.
