Become a skin checker this summer

Before you head out and enjoy the summer sun, (and maybe try out these amazing summer beauty looks), there’s one more thing we wanted to remind you all about.
As part of the beautyheaven community, we know you’re all excellent at applying your sunscreen and keeping your skin protected and healthy - but unfortunately, melanoma is still the fourth most common cancer in Australia.*
But what’s different about this type of cancer, is that it’s the only one visible to the naked eye. Which means that if you’re willing to learn how to check your skin (and the skin of your loved ones), early detection is very much possible.

As a brand dedicated to ongoing sun-safe behaviour and education, La Roche-Posay created the ‘SKIN CHECKER’ campaign and are encouraging people all over the world to learn how to recognise melanomas, spreading the message through super cute videos like this one.
If you’d like to become a skin checker, you can head here to download the ABCDE method (approved and used by dermatologists worldwide) to help you monitor any changes in your moles.

I like the campaign, but I have so many freckles on my arm, it would be impossible for me to detect changes! I think I need to leave it to the doctor.

I've had a few moles I was suspicious of but thankfully they were ok.

The skin checker is a wonderful idea, a handy tool. My doctor keeps a beady eye on my skin because I have several moles. I have had a couple cut out from my shoulder, benign thank goodness.

My tip is to NOT do what I did when I was a silly teenager. It was an era when sun awareness wasn't talked about in the media, so all my friends fried themselves in the sun with baby oil. I stupidly did what they did, but their skin turned tan while my skin became beetroot red.

I check my skin all the time. I have a lot of freckles and moles plus my mum, dad and sister have all had skin cancers removed. Thankfully they were all caught early.

Its great to remind the public of sun cancer as we in Australia are the most vulnerable in the world to it. Great initiative

I have had 2 moles taken off. My daughter has had 1 removed. As my Dad had skin cancer on the top of his ears, and regularly was checked. On one visit I mentioned him as a farmers son and Sailor so they checked him all over and found one right at the top of his spine and said it had to get taken out right then. The Doctor said that it was just on the verge of turning deadly so even another week could have been a worse. How lucky he was, I took the Doctor a Bottle of wine as a Thank-you for putting off his night out to remove this Mole from my dad.

really this is something we all need to do, like pap smears and breast checks - but I know for me, I don't as I have no idea where I am supposed to go. BTW that La Roche Posay oil sunscreen I have had on my list, it's pricey but looks worthwhile.

Great video - I must say I don't wear sunscreen and I rarely ever check my skin, however I haven't spotted any new dots/marks.

Great article! I've got a few spots in my back that I get my doctor to look at when I visit him. They are ok for now, but it's always best to check.
