4 popular beauty trends from our teenage years

Being a teenager is equal parts terrifying and awesome. You’re faced with getting your period, dealing with bitchy gal pals (and guy pals for that matter), constant arguing with your parents, confidence-killing breakouts and ALL of the high school dramz. On the other end of the scale, your adolescence is also all about first dates, school dances, house parties, eating whatever you want (bring back that fast metabolism!) and experimenting with beauty.
No matter what era you were born, some teenage beauty trends make their way back into our lives as adults, cementing our everlasting love for them. Here are the ones we still love today…
#1 Chokers
From cheap plastic chokers (à la Sabrina, the Teenage Witch) to velvet, studded, chain, wrap around, and even bandana styles – the choker has always been a must-have teen accessory (and it’s even totally trendy for adults in 2016!).
#2 Belly piercings
I BEGGED my mum for a belly piercing when I was 16 because they were the coolest thing ever. Fast-forward nine years and I’m still a fan. They’re such a cute, fun accessory and come in some adorable styles, like Blomdahl Navel Barbells & Jewellery Balls (http://www.beautyheaven.com.au/body-health/eyes-ears/28961-blomdahl-caring-jewellery-navel-barbells-jewellery-ball ). It seems loads of celebs agree, with Jessica Alba, Alessandra Ambrosio and Vanessa Hudgens all sporting some belly bling.
#3 Hair accessories
Beth recently told us that hair piercings are trending right now and it just goes to show that this teenage trend will always be popular. Whether it was dressing up your pony tail with a bit of bling (like Lady Jayne Metal Ponytail Cuff), popping on a cute headband (like Gliders Hair Accessories Flex Headband 1pc) or adding a bit of colour (like Vixen Hair Chalk), our teenage years were all about dressing our tresses and if we’re being honest, it’s just as fun to do now – and we’ve gotten a lot better at it, am I right!?
#4 Glitter make-up
I think it’s safe to say we all owned a make-up palette as a teenager that was shiny, glittery and oh-so pigmented. And while my make-up bag is now a little more extensive (OK, a LOT more extensive), I’ve always got some glittery goodness up my sleeve. Whether I want to give my eye make-up a little extra oomph or take my highlighter to the next level, there’s always an occasion for a little extra sparkle! We love e.l.f. cosmetics Studio Glitter Gloss and Bodyography Luster Lux Glitter Pigments.

I'm so over the chokers! But glitter will never go out of trend. I can't get enough of it!! The sparkle shall never die! The Stila Magnificent Metals Liquid Glitter Eyeshadows totally changed the game. I think everyone needs one in the shade "Kitten Karma". One of my favourite beauty products.
Kudos to those who have the courage to get their belly button pierced. I could never do it. I'm such a chicken. Paranoid about an infection.

I remember having a choker when I was about 9 or 10, everyone had school had them and I thought they were the greatest, when I saw them come back into fashion I was a little shocked.

I absolutely love, love, love glitter eyeshadows. I'm more of a matte maker-up wearer these days, but glittery makeup, and basically anything glitter will always have a place in my heart!

I had multiple ear piercings which I did myself. I let them close up but I repierced them recently.
I've always been big on hair accessories. I own the Lady Jayne Ponytail cuff, the semi-cuff & the metal bow, plus HEAPS of headbands, Scünci are my faves.

Glitter has always been my thing, even till now. I think it takes things to another level when a hint of sparkle is added to the eye area.

I love glitter makeup as an adult now, basically my staple product for a night out or when I want to feel glam.

I was seriously into lip gloss in my early teens - the glossier the better! Couldn't got anywhere without it. I remember wearing those cheap chokers in the 90s. Was really surprised to see them come back in fashion.

I never got a belly ring! but still love the look:) I like the hair accessories and chockers...just don't like how the glitter has been applied. But I do like glitter and shimmer.

They're all fabulous and I've tried them all - except the piercings. I'm too much of a coward to get any piercings done and have a low threshold to pain.

I think piercings are still trendy - it's just that the popularity has moved from belly piercings to nose and septums.

I did not have any 'trend' in my teens, or early 20s. I used nothing, done nothing in looks department. But in late 20s 'puberty' struck me and I got Belly piercing. Still have it in my late 30s and adore it! Looks so fab ^^

Only tried glitter eye shadow once and it took a week for my eyes to settle down. Thankfully the belly piercing was never in my wish list.
