Dove unveils confidence-boosting patches campaign

Dove has always been really great at empowering women with strong messages of self worth and body confidence. The brand’s videos often break down our perceptions of the perfect body image by showing us how many enhancements go into the images of the women on the front of magazines.
However, Dove’s latest campaign, in which the brand and a trial psychologist present a group of women with stick-on arm patches that are designed to make them feel more beautiful, is a little different.
After two weeks of wearing the patches and checking in with video diaries, the women reveal that they are indeed feeling more beautiful and their self-esteem was growing.
But could a patch really be that effective in boosting women’s confidence?
At the end of the clip, the trial psychologist reveals the patches actually contain 'nothing' and that they are simply a placebo. The women react with happy tears and smiles at the realisation that the good feelings they are having about themselves are all down to them. Aww.
What do you think of Dove’s latest campaign? Do you think it’s an interesting test to prove that confidence comes from within? Or do you think it’s down to us to make ourselves feel beautiful in our skin?

Wearing a patch would make me more anxious. I'd be worried about chemicals leaching into my body.

Honestly I find this so disingenuous and a bit comical. It's really cheesy

I think it's a bit silly to be honest. I'm not sure that anyone would really believe that wearing a patch would make them feel more beautiful.

Placebo effect - maybe? If there were patches for removing acne, and they were sae, I'd be in. (Thankfully the acne is minor now).

Sell these patches & let people think it's to boost their confidence when really it's not, There is nothing to them sounds like a scam to me & you wouldn't think they would have such a thing on the market like this & these people bought into it, Really? If I was given this to try I would say no outright.

I would have thought the patch would contain herbs to boost the mood, hopefully the volunteers were told that it wasn't a harmful substance. Don't think I'd be keen on using something I couldn't research. Good that the placebo worked though.

I think the idea behind this is beautiful. Perhaps not executed in the most realistic or effective way, but you can't deny it's still a lovely thought.

Before putting the patch on I would have though this has to have some sort of meds in it. Anti depressant type. But just a mind trick I suppose..

Strange campaign. I would be very sceptic to stick a patch of unknown substance to my arm.

I am a tiny bit surprised that people would even take stuff not knowing what it is and it (well they did not know it at the start) can contain psychotropic drugs, mind altering stuff. lol bit disconcerting how desperate some women are

I like their campaign using real women, but this just demonstrates what a placebo can do? Why do scientists waste so much money conducting studies that we all already know the answer too?

Some of their campaigns are good, but this one is ridiculous.

This seems a bit weird....I would never have believed that a patch would make you feel beautiful/confident

Strange way to go about boosting self esteem, but it worked! Goes to show how the power of positive thinking works well too

Its a psychological thing...almost similar to when we feel tired and once we take some sort of caffeine the tiredness goes away. However, sometimes the tiredness is usually just psychological.
