Behind-the-teeth braces
What are Incognito(tm) Lingual Braces and how do they work to straighten your teeth?
Incognito Lingual Braces from 3M provide a new and practically invisible way to change your smile. Because Incognito Braces are placed on the back side of your teeth, they are completely hidden from view. No one will know that you are wearing braces - unless you tell them! Each bracket is 100 per cent customised to follow the contours of your teeth, for maximum comfort and performance. We build your unique prescription, determined by your Incognito Orthodontist, into your Incognito Braces so your teeth will move in the most efficient manner possible. Our wires are bent to a precise shape with robotic technology to ensure that you get the results you want.
What’s involved in getting your Incognito braces customised?
Your initial braces consultation: at your first appointment, your Orthodontist will mainly be interested in understanding your concerns and expectations about factors such as your dental and facial appearance, your bite and any other concerns you may have. A thorough examination will be carried out, including measurements of your teeth, face and jaw joints. Your Orthodontist will also discuss potential treatment options that will work best for you and if you are ready for treatment to be started.
Taking impressions of your teeth: if your Orthodontist has decided you are ready and suitable for treatment with Incognito Lingual Braces, diagnostic models and records will be taken for your Orthodontist to develop your individual treatment plan.
As Incognito Braces are designed to fit the anatomy of your teeth, your Orthodontist will take very precise silicone impressions of your teeth and send the impressions, along with your braces prescription, to our Incognito Appliance System laboratory.
Creating your Incognito Braces: your braces will be designed using CAD/CAM technology, printed using a stereo lithography apparatus (wax printer) and then cast in gold. Customised archwires are then fabricated and bent to the final result using robotic technology. Your braces are then polished and fitted to a bonding tray for precise positioning of the braces on your teeth.
Bonding your Incognito Braces: within 6-8 weeks, your Incognito Braces are delivered to your Orthodontist’s office, ready for your bonding appointment.
How long does it take to apply them?
Once your individually customised Incognito braces are delivered to your Orthodontist, your bond-up appointment will take approximately 90 minutes for a full upper and lower arch.
Generally, how long will it take before you to start to see some improvement?
You should start to see changes within the first 6-8 weeks of treatment.
What’s the approximate length of treatment time?
Every patient is different and treatment times can vary based on the physiology and complexity of the misalignment. However, you should start to see changes within the first 6-8 weeks of treatment. Your Orthodontist should be able to give you an approximate treatment time before you commence treatment.
How are they removed?
Special lingual instrumentation is used to make removal as comfortable as possible.
Is there a possibility your teeth will move again after you’ve used Incognito?
As with any other orthodontic appliance, it is important to follow your Orthodontist’s instructions for retention.

These would be a popular choice of braces to get, behind the teeth braces. I am lucky I have never had issues with my bite or crooked teeth.

I had train tracks as a teenager and don't remember having such a hard time eating! Plus: I've lost a lot of weight, Minus: eating yogurt and soup for 9 months (steak makes pieces of it fall off or protrude like a map pin rubbing off your tongue) has given me anemia. Site seems to be mainly targeted at women so... I have found that these things shread one in three condoms. First time I have ever had to make provisions the morning after. The most important thing to consider is how much talking you do in your day-to-day life. My tongue cannot keep pace with what I want to say. The whole deal is too expensive to change at this point. I question why no one has come up with some decent smooth guard to cover the back evil brackets from the tongue. (Wax is pointless and does nothing)

My teeth used to only be slightly crooked, but in the last couple of years they have shifted quite a bit, apparently due to receding gums and my bite pushing down on them or something. I hate it, but the cost of fixing it at my age is just way beyond my capacity. I guess I just ignore my teeth now and worry about my teenage daughter's so she doesn't have to put up with the same thing in the future. :-(

Ohhh these sound wonderful. My poor son has my teeth, small mouth for the normal number of teeth, so they are a bit crowded. I really want to get braces for him (and maybe me???). Thanx BB. xoxoxoxox

I haven't had problems in the pass but as I'm getting older I notice the bottom teeth r getting a bit crooked , I think this type of braces would be especially great for older people that don't want people to know thay have braces on a lot of young kids don't mind the look of braces .and the colors.bands thay can have on them .but for the people that don't it perfect . but thay do sound expensive.that's a worry .

Luckily I never had to wear braces but both my kids unfortunately had to. My kids went through hell getting them and such a shame that these have only been invented now. I think they are a wonderful idea.
