Could tequila be your new beauty saviour?

Have you ever had that icky post-shower feeling that your bod isn’t quite clean (those who went to splendour over the weekend will know what I mean)?
It doesn’t matter how much you lather up, you still feel a tad grimy.
Well, we’ve just stumbled upon a scrub that promises to leave your skin feeling squeaky clean and fresh – and it uses one of the best kitchen ingredients of all time: TEQUILA!
According to allure.com, you can use this tasty tipple as an astringent.
For those of you who don’t know what that means, Director of Cosmetic and Clinical Research at Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC, Joshua Zeichner, says the alcohol content in the bevvy “helps remove excess dirt and oil from the skin, much like the astringents you can buy at the drug store."
Seizing on this scientific fact, Aesthetician and Spa Director at the Ocean Pearl Spa in San Diego, Leah Crump, has crafted a recipe for a DIY body scrub that uses tequila (as well as yummy moisturizing coconut and almond oils).
According to Zeichner, the combination of tequila and oils is a winning one:
"The tequila acts as an exfoliator in this scrub," says Zeichner. "Coconut and almond oil act as soothing and hydrating ingredients," he adds.
Not convinced? The scrub also contains rose oil to give it a delicious scent (so you won’t smell like a Mexican bar).

Are you ready to slough off those dead skin cells with tequila? Here’s the recipe:
What you’ll need:
- 1/4 cup raw sugar
- 1/4 cup sea salt
- 1 oz sweet almond oil
- 1/2 oz coconut oil
- 1/2 oz white tequila
- 5 drops rose absolute essential oil
All you need to do is combine the above together in a bowl using your hands, then siphon into a container and voila – your new sexy skin weapon is all ready to be unleashed!
Cheers to that.
Just be warned: This scrub should only be used once or twice a month (it’s pretty powerful) and it should absolutely not be used on your face.
What’s your best DIY beauty recipe? Would you try this scrub, or do you prefer store-bought skincare?

All the other ingredients sound great, but I wouldn't be keen to add tequila. I suppose any spirit would do the same job.

Does drinking it have the same effect?! Just kidding, I know that would never be the case- the world doesn't work that way! I think I'll stick to drinking it though, not wasting it!

I have been looking for an intensive exfoliant for my feet. I might give this a go one day. I would probably use another essential oil because rose oil is so expensive.

I'd be scared to try this at home even though I've used DIY body scrubs in the past that have turned out awesome! However, I dd once read that one of Kim Kardashian's favourite beauty treatments (in-salon, natch) is a tequila body scrub so maybe it's not as crazy as it sounds!
